Google Adwords make mature Internet Marketers salivate. A great Subject Line starts the money rolling in. Everyone says the secret is in the Subject line.
So How Do You Tell If You Have a Great Subject Line?
You can spend quite a bit of time, and not an inconsiderable amount of money testing various subject lines in Google. The Net is awash with strategies on how to test Subject Lines with Keywords, and how to hone everything into laser-sharp targeted ads. Perfecting your skill requires persistence, patience, and money.
However, if you are like me, with a limited budget to spend on Google Adwords, you might want to consider and alternative method.
Free classified Ads
Don’t roll your eyes. Free classified ads have brought me in many leads. Using Free Classifieds serves many purposes all at once.
* You get your name out to new audiences and new markets
* You get to post your url all over the Internet
* You can test many different subject lines and track the results
* In the process, you might hit pay dirt by finding sites and opportunities you may never have otherwise discovered.
Here’s My Method Of Operation
First, I write up a dozen or so subject lines I like and want to test. (Watch for my article on finding unique subject lines.) Then I do a simple search for free classifieds. When you do your search, don’t just use Google. Google is great, don’t get me wrong, but other search engines use different approaches to listing sites. Since everyone is using Google, you might have better luck with Alta Vista, or Yahoo. What did they teach you in University? Don’t go to only one, reference source, use many.
Now armed with my list, I begin to log into these sites and post my ad. I keep an Excel spread sheet open with column headings like; Site Name, Site url, User Name, Password, Subject line of ad, Tracking url and a comments column.
A tracking URL is essential to finding out, which ads are working. Many companies out there that offer this service.
I use the same excel spreadsheet to track the results. Once you isolate an ad that is really pulling, your next step is to take it to Google Adwords where you can develop a campaign for that Ad.
Revamping Failed Ads
Have you ever created an ad the prefect ad only to find it sucked big time when you tested it? Well with this system, you have the opportunity to play with the ad, change the word order, tweak a phrase, and find another site to test it. All at little or no cost. The difference between a successful ad and a failed one may be one word. Remove a “the”, or change its location. Bingo, your ads hot. Why?
If I could answer that question, I would write the book and retire.
Hope this helps you find the Holy Grail of Marketing, a successful Google Adwords campaign.
