In the summer of 1981 a gruesome quadruple homicide occurred on LA’s Wonderland Avenue. The police investigation that ensued exposed a seedy underworld full of liars, thieves, and drug dealers. At the center of the investigation were three groups: a group of low level drug dealers and thieves (who are the murdered), a notorious LA kingpin and his goons, and the legendary pornstar John Holmes, along with his wife and girlfriend. Wonderland looks at these three groups and tells the story of how these murders came about and what the motives behind them truly were.

This movie is one of those strange films that you (or me in this case) somehow never hear about, but it has such an amazing cast you have to wonder if you’re the only person who hasn’t (don’t worry, you’re not). The credits include Val Kilmer (John Holmes), Kate Bosworth (Dawn Schiller, Holmes’ girlfriend), Josh Lucas (Ron Launius, part of the drug dealing crew), Lisa Kudrow (Holmes’ estranged wife), and Dylan McDermott (David Lind, another member of the drug dealing crew), and this is just the beginning. There are definitely to be many more recognizable faces as you watch Wonderland.

The movie itself chronicles the events from two perspectives: David Lind’s (McDermott) recount of events leading up to the murders and John Holmes (Kilmer) recount of same series of events. Through each of the two stories the investigation pieces together the possible ways that the murders came about and why they occurred in the first place. This flick is not for the faint of heart, but for its cast alone it’s a definite must on your “to see” list of movies. If you get a chance I highly recommend checking out Wonderland.
