Each year when I go to visit my accountant at tax time, I sit in the waiting room and flip through old magazines, not really comprehending what I’m reading.

How wonderful it would be to instead have a scrapbook to flip through. There are so many ideas of what to put inside the scrapbook. How about photos of clients who agree to have their photos in the album? How about the other employees in the office who all make the office run? What about including a short bio about each employee? It is my opinion that a huge part of business is connection. What better way to connect than to read a bio of an employee and discover you both have something in common?

What about some of the latest articles on the newest tax laws? If the articles are a bit too long, what about your personal summary of the articles? This might help me know what to think about and save this next tax year.

What about a list of things to remember for my appointment? Then have extra copies of this list available at the front counter. What about a list of books that clients might be interested in reading? I’m thinking a list of books about money that are written for the customer, not for the accountant. Again, make this list available at the front counter.

What about currency from other countries? I’ve always found currency from other countries interesting. Here, in the U.S. we tend to use $20 and $50 bills, but in other countries, it’s not uncommon to use $100 and $500 bills. I love seeing the words on their bills, the choice of pictures on the bills etc.

What a great way to pass my time, looking through this scrapbook instead of some old, outdated magazine. Audrey Okaneko has been scrapbooking for several years. She can be reached at audreyoka@cox.net or visited at www.scrapping-made-simple.com
