You have photos stuffed in boxes, crammed into albums and a few stashed in the catch-all drawer. You keep telling yourself that someday you’ll go through them and put them in a glorious scrapbook crafted to perfection. But between work, errands and fixing dinner you just never seem to have a chance to pull the scrapbook together.
If you aren’t already among the one in four households that participate in scrapbooking, no need to get worked up or stressed out. Start small. With the rapid rise in the popularity of scrapbooking there are many options to easily capture a cherished memory. A smaller scale project makes it simple to get started.
Basic Supplies
All you need to begin are scissors, a few sheets of coordinating paper and acid-free glue (to prevent pictures from yellowing). If you want to get a bit more elaborate, select some stickers, paper punches and colored felt pens. Supplies may be found at local scrapbooking stores or at retailers such as Target and Wal-Mart.
Beginner Projects
Making an entire scrapbook that chronicles your family history can be a daunting task. Instead, you can create a mini scrapbook. These books can have smaller page sizes and need not look like a novel - 10 pages in length if you want. Taking just one to two hours to complete, they are ideal for featuring a specific event such as a vacation, a day at the zoo or baseball game, a birthday party or a family camping trip.
Another great beginner project is the Scrapbook Travel mug by Aladdin. This project allows you to scrapbook a customizable insert for an insulated mug letting you not only take coffee, but your personal memories on-the-go as well. And it’s guaranteed to be a conversation starter, all while keeping your coffee just the way you like it. The Scrapbook Travel mug is available at Target and Wal-Mart for $14.99.
Design Tips
* Make photos “pop” – Use a themed background paper, but mat your photos in a solid color. Also, don’t be afraid to crop the picture to focus on what’s really important.
* Embellish! Use mementos such as theater tickets, maps, or parts of a brochure to showcase memories that enrich the photos.
* Journal – Write a “journal entry” that describes the event in more detail or tells a funny or touching story.
* Other hints – To get your creative juices flowing, Aladdin offers free downloadable inserts for their Scrapbook Travel mug on www.aladdinlunch.com. - ARA |
