Do you know a network marketer like this: traipses around wearing t-shirts emblazoned with his company logo, is always at the ready with promotional material to thrust on unsuspecting prospects, is perpetually lying in wait for people to ask him what he does for a living so he can present his business? His philosophy: some will, some won’t, so what? There are always more nos than yeses.
A part of you admires his thick-skinned tenacity. Another part of you cringes at the sight of him. Is this sort of shameless self-promotion the only way to succeed in network marketing?
Thankfully, no. His success lies in sheer numbers. His bull-in-a-Chinashop willingness to expose his business to anyone who can fog a mirror ensures that he will, eventually, stumble upon those in his target market. But there is a much more efficient, less embarrassing, way to reach this target market.
The key to effective marketing can be summed up in one word: positioning. There is indeed a market of people who are in fact “waiting” to hear about your home business opportunity, just as you were once. Your job is to put yourself in front of those people everyday through marketing and advertising efforts. And the most powerful tool for doing so is the Internet.
Online marketing is a broad and detailed subject and if you are new to it, you have quite a learning curve ahead of you. But there are three major activities that you need to involve yourself in if you want to promote your business online: article marketing, blogging, and pay per click and e-zine advertising.
This may seem like a lot of hard work, but the return on investment makes it well worth your time. Especially considering that some can be done free and can open up other avenues of revenue in the long term.
So, don’t be that guy, but do learn from him. Use the Web to position yourself in front of your target market.
