As you try to make your living pulling organic visitors to you web site, there'll be a hard road ahead of you. While PPC marketing will move traffic to your site immediately, it will also eat most of your sales and then some if you're not careful.
The cheap path to natural search engine optimization requires much endurance. Albeit there are little victories as you move along, but it is very often many weeks if not months before there is any impressive traffic on your major keywords from the search engines.
I don't know if you relate to this, but I tend to become discouraged when I can't immediately see the results of my work. I am very accustomed to tracking two stats which are all but nonexistant for new sites. These measurements include unique visitors and clicks on my ads and affiliate links.
If I am going to keep playing this SEO game, I need to begin measuring my successes using different stats. These stats are pages indexed and number of backlinks. Both of these measures will lead to good ranking for my keywords, but this will not be immediate. In the meantime I will be happy as I see my pages indexed and backlink counts increase every day.
Due to this need, I created a PHP script to automate this checking. You paste in every domains you wish to track. You can even keep stats on your article titles to understand how far your article is appearing on the Internet. Every day I just click the "Update Stats" button and it finds the most current numbers for all of my sites and articles. It even keeps the data for each day so I can view my progress.
So be encouraged. Whether you use this application or you check your stats by hand, your marketing work will bear fruit. It is important that you keep on track and find your little victories along the way.
