“Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall.
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the Kings horses
And all the Kings men
Couldn’t put Humpty together again.”
--Mother Goose

Poor Humpty. What do you suppose the chances are that his fall was to a place of shame? Sounds like it to me. It’s no wonder the Kings Men couldn’t help him, couldn’t get him back together.

Shame on you! The word itself conjures feelings of hopelessness. What a horror, to be in a state of shame.
And how does one recover from that place?

Do you know anyone who glues broken glass back together, like if the handle gets broken off a coffee mug, or something falls out of the cabinet onto that really nice ceramic spoon rest and breaks it? Everybody does this at some point in life, don’t they? And once it’s glued back together, is it ever really the same? No. There is a fundamental change in the object.

So even if the King’s Men had super glue way back when Humpty was falling off the wall, poor Humpty would still not be really together again, not the way he was before. He’ll always have the cracks and traces of glue as a reminder of his fall. Every time he looks in the mirror he’ll think about that shame.

Maybe you could consider this. Humpty may not be exactly the same as he was before, but there is a super glue that renders him still perfect in every way, and that super glue is unconditional love.

How about the soothing effects of unconditional love? That’s where there is forgiveness. And acceptance. That’s where Humpty‘s inner beauty is seen still shining through, where Humpty can begin to appreciate himself, cracks and all. Picture the beauty of stained glass,. The beauty is manifested in the putting together of something broken.

Do you have something that you feel ashamed about? Maybe it’s your size? Your big butt? Your fat stomach? Are your cracks showing when you look in the mirror? Join your cracks with the soothing effects of unconditional love. You really are perfect. If you love yourself unconditionally, you will become whole, a beautiful piece of stained glass.
