Australia is luring thousands of young people who wish to vacation in Australia and work at the same time. With its Working Holiday Maker Scheme, young backpackers from member reciprocal countries are given opportunity to supplement their travel funds through incidental employment.

Australia is mainly looking for backpackers skilled in the fields of accountancy, health, and IT. The programme has been updated to accommodate seasonal work as well. Under the seasonal work, (or work that is seasonal in nature) employees may engage in harvesting, animal cultivation, pearling, fishing, tree felling, and many others. Australia's non-discriminatory policy ensures that any one regardless of sex, race, color, or religion is entitled to a decent work as long they have the skills for it.

The only requirement is that the work should be of temporary or casual nature, and not lasting for more than six months (three months for seasonal work) with the same employer. As stipulated in Australian award and work conditions, young backpackers will get paid the same rate as any Australian employee in the same profession.

Applicants for the holiday maker visa must be 18 to 30 years old, single or married, and have no dependent children. They must declare that their main purpose for going to Australia is to holiday, and any for incidental work acquired there is to support themselves while on holiday.

As such, applicants must also show that they have either a return ticket or sufficient funds for a return fare and for the first part of your stay; and that they intend to leave Australia at the end of the alloted period, which is up to twelve (12) months.

Australia currently has reciprocal Working Holiday maker arrangements in effect with the United Kingdom, Canada, the Netherlands, Japan, Republic of Ireland, Republic of Korea, Thailand, Malta, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) of the People's Republic of China, Finland, the Republic of Cyprus, France, and Italy, Belgium, Estonia, Bangladesh, Chile and Taiwan.

While the Working Holiday Maker has been known to benefit Australia in economic terms (backpackers spend an annual $1.3 billion annually, the real mutuality of the arrangement lies in its cultural and social impact. Young people availing themselves of the scheme get to experience the Australian way of life and culture at close-range, and at the same time share their own--a mutual exchange and understanding that surpasses any statistical figure.

With the rise of the eVisa system, more and more people are able to apply for a visa right at the comfort of their own homes. Tedious and lengthy trips to Australian immigration offices have been replaced by more convenient and faster online registration. Together, immigration and officials and online visa websites are working hand in hand to bring Australia and the young of the world together. National Visas
